MISDEMEANOR Classification & Penalties
Misdemeanor convictions include Class A, Class B, and unclassified charges. The seriousness of the crime dictates the severity of the punishment. New York law assigns certain penalties to each misdemeanor class. Certain convictions require jail time, fines, or both.
- Class A Misdemeanor –If an individual is convicted of a Class A misdemeanor, they can face up to a maximum of one year in jail and up to a $1,000 fine.
